Television came to Richmond, Virginia on April 22, 1948, when WTVR-Channel 6 signed on as the first television station granted a federal license south of the Mason-Dixon line. The tower of 1048ft above sea level was the tallest free standing structure in the United States at the time and now stands as a familiar landmark to visitors in Richmond. WTVR now provides news and live radar weather information via DopplerMax 6 unit, purchased in a partnership with Dominion Power, to the largest viewing area in central-Virginia and Northern-N. Carolina.
Since 1948, Richmond has added a wide-variety of national networks to it?s local television signal spectrum, in addition to cable services provided by Comcast. Links to these televisions stations are provided to the left. Most of these websites provide live news feeds regarding local events and might be useful in learning about the ?going?s on? of the area.
