In addition to the national offers from such news megaliths as the New York Times and USA Today, Richmond produces one major local paper, The Richmond Times-Dispatch. Over the years, Richmond has had a number of large newspapers, among the more recent selections were the Richmond Times and the Richmond Dispatch. During the mid-1990's, amid stiff national compeition, these two newspapers merged into a larger publication, more capable of competing with the national offerings, with a distribution throughout the metro-Richmond area and Virginia.
It should be noted, however, that although Richmond has only one widely distributed newspaper, there are dozens of small, community oriented organizations serving the individual counties and towns surrounding Richmond. A complete survey of these publications would be nearly impossible, but a links list of the more popular alternatives is provided to the left, alongside the Richmond-Times Dispatch. Many of these papers provide an online version, similar to the Times-Dispatch, but with much more community-level focus. This might be useful to individuals moving to or contemplating a move into a particular area.
If you know of a regional or community newspaper for the Richmond-Virginia area that is not already mentioned in the links area to the left, please contact the Richmond-VA.net webmaster and provide a URL and newspaper name.
